Apparently, I cannot operate a Calendar

This weekend I got two terribly appointments wrong. I managed to correct one just in time to avoid missing it. Despite years of practice, apparently, I cannot operate a calendar.

Yesterday I had just one scheduled event. Kim and I was supposed to meet Marianne for brunch. Somehow I manged to schedule this in my calendar for Sunday morning, even though Marianne mentioned that it was on Saturday in every email. On Saturday morning, since we believe we had nothing to do, Kim went out to get groceries. I emailed Marianne, and she responded with “See you shortly.” Then alarm bells went off in my head. I was able to make it to brunch just 10 minutes late. But Kim when Kim got home I was gone. She thought I was out, being sweet, and buying her breakfast. She didn’t realize I what had happened until she found the note I left, which was in the obvious place of on my desk in my office with the door closed. Yup, I’m a freakin genius.

Brunch was great though. Culina on 99th is really incredible. I cannot say that it is in fact better than the Blue Plate for brunch, but it gives it a good run for its money; much more imaginative items on the brunch menu but they are not open on Sundays (Blue Plate is!).

Yesterday I had just one scheduled event: brunch. Somehow, I ended up trying to attend a second event though. While my brunch appointment had not be entered for Saturday, I had mistaking entered a mini-golf tournament for Saturday evening. Kim came home right after refereeing a rugby game (instead of staying around to chat with other players and referees) so that we could rush off to the mini-golf event. When we got there, nobody else was a around. We waited, and waited. Nobody else showed up. Then I realized: the tournament is next weekend.

Now, I have feel as if I have to double-check every single appointment I have scheduled for the next month just in case. I also have to apologize to my wife for all the confusion. She didn’t get to go to brunch as a result of my date-time disability. Of course, we did get to go out for dinner after we realized there was no mini-golf event.

This is just going to get worse when we are forced to use the new USian time-zone changes next year.

maybe you need one of these…http://www.pocketmod.com/app/index.html

  • I use calendar software right now. The easy with which I can move events around seems to be part of the problem. I think what I really need is a world were we all use calendars with iCal support so that my friends can schedule my events for me. It seems to be the redundant data-entry step where I am getting tripped up.

Sadly, I am using Palm Desktop with no support (or hope of support) for iCal.
